Over 1,200 rare and vintage toys are in an online auction ending Feb. 11-12 by SeriousToyz.com

Nearly 1,200 lots of rare, vintage toys, many of them mint in the box and highly desirable pieces, will be sold in a phone, mail, Internet and catalog auction already online at SeriousToyz.com. The sale will conclude Feb. 11-12. It is an absolute auction (everything sells, regardless of price) and many lots have starting bids of just $5 and $10.

Two lots in particular are expected to generate intense bidder interest. One is an 1870 patent model horse and carriage tin toy, including paperwork (a half-tag indicating when the toy was received, and a patent tag dated July 26, 1870). The other is a rare 1919 A.C. Gilbert & Co. ‘New Wheel’ building toy, mint in the box, also with paperwork.

Both toys will carry suggested opening bids of $1,500, according to Tom Miano, owner of SeriousToyz.com. He added the auction was delayed a bit from its planned Fall 2010 schedule date. “It took us a little while to get our ducks in a row on this one,” he mused, “but in the end, everything lined up beautifully and we’re looking forward to quite possibly our best sale ever.”

More than 40 consignors, including several 30- and 40-year lifetime collections, were brought together in an auction that offers something for just about every toy collector and aficionado. Featured are a large number of mint, store stock and factory-sealed items, plus in-depth offerings across dozens of collecting categories. A sampling of what’s for sale follows:

Hundreds of highly collectible die-cast toys, to include Matchbox, Hot Wheels, Corgi, Dinky and more, both boxed and loose, with many scarce and rare variations.

Dozens of sought-after and coveted character toys from the 1950s and ‘60s, many in their original packaging and many factory sealed. A trove for nostalgic baby boomers.
Over 70 beautiful vintage lunch boxes, with many highly desirable issues.

A large group of tin wind-up and battery-operated toys from the early 1900s through the 1950s, including many classic characters.

Scores of pressed steel, tin, cast-iron and plastic vehicle toys, to include cars, trucks, motorcycles, airplanes, trains, ships and more.

Smaller groups of outstanding pieces, in categories such as sand pails, Halloween, Pez, lead soldiers, World’s Fair, tin, early pinbacks, rings, premiums, classic ‘60s toys and more.

Oversized, multiple-view photos of each lot, in full color and with detailed descriptions for each one, may be viewed at www.SeriousToyz.com. “We pride ourselves in holding auctions that offer quality items in all price ranges, so everyone can participate,” Mr. Miano said. “Our auction rules are set up so that everyone has an equal chance to get what they’re bidding on.”

Bidders have several ways to participate. They can log on to the SeriousToyz website, at www.SeriousToyz.com, and bid online. Or, they can mail in a bid (to #1 Baltic Place, Croton-on-Hudson, NY 10520), or phone in their bid, toll-free (at 1-866-653-8699, international 914-271-8669). A full-color catalog ($10 postpaid, $15 international) is now available. Call to order one.

There are no “sudden death” endings in SeriousToyz.com auctions. Each lot has its own computerized “clock,” and items will close individually when 60 minutes pass without a bid. As such, there is no advantage or need for participants to wait for the last minute to place a bid, especially if they are bidding by phone. Bidding before closing days and when using ceiling bids are both advised. Pre-registration with a valid credit card is required before a bid can be placed.

SeriousToyz.com was launched in 1995 by Tom and Patti Miano, dedicated toy collectors who turned their passion into a thriving business. For 15+ years, they’ve sold thousands of items to discriminating collectors worldwide. SeriousToyz  has earned numerous Toy Shop Magazine customer service awards, and is widely regarded as the premier old toy auction house in the U.S.

SeriousToyz is a regular contributor to vintage toy price guides, such as Toys & Prices and O’Brian’s Collecting Toys. SeriousToyz is always accepting quality consignments for future sales. To consign a single toy or a whole collection, you may call Tom Miano toll-free, at (866) 653-8699; or you can e-mail him at Tom@SeriousToyz.com.

The Other World Cup – Of Coffee

The 2010 World Barista Championship is taking place at the Caffe Culture show from 23 – 25 June in the Olympia Exhibition Centre. This event is the premier international coffee competition. Champions from more than 50 countries have to prepare espressos, cappuccinos and original signature drinks during a 15-minute performance set to music.

It’s always the signature drinks that cause the most excitement. They give the competitors a chance to wow and really show their flair. This year the official sponsor, Hamilton Beach Commercial, is supplying its Tempest® blender to help the experts whizz up their winning drinks.

Foodservice Equipment Marketing (FEM), who distributes the Hamilton Beach blenders in the UK, will have a display near the stage showing an entire range of Hamilton Beach Commercial blenders. The FEM team will be on hand to explain to visitors exactly what the blenders can do and how to make sensational drinks.

“We are delighted to be representing Hamilton Beach Commercial blenders at the championship,” says Mark Hogan of FEM. “This American brand is proving extremely popular in the UK.  That’s because the blenders’ durability, special ‘wave-action’ container and blade design produce a consistently smooth mixture, with outstanding results, in very quick fashion.”

The Tempest is a powerful blender for fast-paced, high volume businesses.  The blenders are easy to operate and offer features that will prove invaluable to the Barista competitors. A timer with automatic shut-off to free the operator up for other tasks, such as making those winning touches to their drinks, and a red warning light that indicates if the container is not in place correctly saves valuable seconds when working under pressure.

For more information and details of local UK stockists call FEM on +44 (0) 1355 244111, email sales@fem.co.uk or visit http://www.fem.co.uk .  For information outside the UK, visit www.commercial.hamiltonbeach.com

Calling ALL Christians in Nashville Tennessee - NashvilleChristian.com

We are concentrating our efforts on two areas right now, and we need your help:

First, we seek to expand the potential of our NASHVILLE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY DIRECTORY, by helping local churches get listed for FREE, displaying their contact information, service times, linking to their website, and podcast or webcast feeds (where available). Our software also provides an interactive map to their property. This is a tremendous interface, but it requires people still to input the information. We also host a CHRISTIAN MUSIC INDUSTRY DIRECTORY and CHRISTIAN BUSINESS DIRECTORY  (http://nashvillechristian.com/directory/index.php), which also operate on the same platform as our CHURCH DIRECTORY. These areas are equally in need of community involvement, and offer FREE listings for greater Nashville area Christians.

Secondly, we are committed to developing our NASHVILLE CHRISTIAN EVENT CALENDAR (http://nashvillechristian.com/calendar.php), promoting events throughout the city, which are open to the entire local body of Christ. This includes Christian concert listings, worship gatherings, evangelistic outreaches; the whole spectrum of greater Nashville area Christian community events. One of our goals is to become the most definitive listings of Christian Events in the middle Tennessee area. This website is a mom & pop shop though, we do absolutely nothing to generate money through this website, this is simply our way of trying to serve the Lord. We need the community to get INVOLVED if this is to be successful.

You can help out right now by registering at the website (http://nashvillechristian.com), listing your church or Christian business in our directory, posting events for your local church on our Event Calendar, and telling your friends about this website. (Every dollar we spend on advertising comes directly out of our pocket.) In order for this to be sustainable, we NEED the community's involvement, we need your involvement.

Thanks & Speak LIFE!

JVC to Introduce GY-HM790 ProHD Camcorder

JVC Professional Products, a division of JVC U.S.A., will introduce the new flagship of its ProHD camcorder line, the GY-HM790, at the 2010 NAB Show in Las Vegas, Nev., April 12-15 (Booth C4314). With an innovative modular design and a full complement of accessories, the new camera supports multicore or fiber-based production. Plus, as a shoulder-mount camcorder, it delivers outstanding ENG and sports production performance with more features than ever.

The GY-HM790 features three 1/3-inch CCDs, which allow a lighter, more compact form factor for better maneuverability in the field and more flexibility with robotic camera control systems in the studio. It produces 1920x1080 images and can record in 1080i, 720p, and even SD (480i) for operations that have not yet made the move to HD. The camera records at 35 Mbps (HQ mode/variable bit rate) or 19 Mbps/25 Mbps (SP mode/constant bit rate). The camera ships with a Canon 14x zoom lens or without lens, as accommodates a variety of lenses with its 1/3-inch bayonet lens mount.

Adopting the successful tapeless workflow introduced in the GY-HM700 camcorder, the GY-HM790 features a dual card slot design that records to low-cost, non-proprietary SDHC Class 6 or 10 solid-state media cards. JVC’s native file recording technology allows recording in ready-to-edit file formats for Apple Final Cut Pro (.mov) and other major NLE systems (.mp4) that are compatible with Sony XDCAM EX workflow.

An optional ASI output module provides a direct feed from the camera to a satellite uplink or microwave transmitter via BNC – no “black box” interfaces required – for live HD video from the field. Other ENG features on the GY-HM790 include an analog SD pool feed input, 4.3-inch LCD screen, and a high-resolution, 1.2 megapixel LCOS viewfinder. Two XLR inputs with phantom power offer uncompressed LPCM audio recording with manual level controls.

“The excellent image quality of the GY-HM790, coupled with its versatility for both studio and ENG use, makes it an attractive camcorder for broadcasters in any DMA,” said Craig Yanagi, manager of marketing and brand strategy. “Plus, our optional ASI module makes it easier than ever to produce true HD reports from the field. The GY-HM790 does more than shoot great pictures, it literally changes the way live news reports can be produced.”

With its HD/SD-SDI port, the GY-HM790 provides an uncompressed 4:2:2 full HD signal for live monitoring, and a FireWire port provides output of SD signals or the HDV transport stream, so footage can be backed up economically with an HDD recorder. An optional SxS media recorder module attaches directly to the camcorder and allows simultaneous recording to SDHC cards and SxS media.

The new GY-HM790 also builds on the studio capabilities of JVC’s popular GY-HD250 camera with its improved picture quality and cleaner studio integration. Its redesigned studio adapter sled incorporates a modular approach to multicore or fiber connectivity for a cleaner interface. Modules connect directly to the camera without external cabling, so they can be used either with the studio sled or handheld. Plus, JVC’s modular approach allows the creation of additional modules to accommodate future technologies.

Other new features for studio or multi-camera use include built-in time code in/out and genlock. JVC also offers a full complement of accessories, including a remote camera control unit, remote shader panel, 8.4-inch studio viewfinder, and multi-input special effects generators.

The GY-HM790 will be available this summer with an MSRP starting at $11,995, including the Canon 14x HD ENG lens.

A specially configured low light version of the camera, the GY-HM790LL, has JVC's patented LoLux function that provides ENG users with image capture in an extremely low light environment. The LoLux version will be available to broadcast direct customers beginning in the Fall of 2010.
